Ed Warren Interview Part 3

Interview with the Demonologist:  Ed Warren
PART 3 By Tony Spera

Q: Ed, I know you and Lorraine just returned from England and Scotland. How was your trip?

A: It was terrific Tony. We went all over the place, Borley, York, Edinburgh, the Isle of Skye. It was a great trip. We brought two of our students with us, John Arel and Bea Loyd.

Q: Did you run into anything unusual? Any haunting phenomena?

A: Oh God yes. Every time we go we see, feel or hear something strange. It was also a pleasure trip ya know. It’s good to get away once in a while. Life is slower over there.

Q: Can you tell me about anything strange that happened over there?

A: Well one night just after Lorraine and I went to bed, I heard this voice beckoning me. It kept saying” You need food. You are hungry! Ed laughed heartily.

Q: Are you serious? Did a voice really say that?

A: Yeah. It was my stomach growling at me! Ha, Ha. Ed began slapping his knee.

Q: Could we be serious for a moment Ed? Did you really see or hear anything strange?

A: Ok, seriously, one night I did have something strange happen. I was really tired this one night. We were staying at a very old Bed & Breakfast place. I got into bed. Lorraine was already in bed. I was just starting to drift off, when I felt someone tucking the covers in. I remember thinking to myself, ” How nice of Lorraine to tuck me in, ya know, like a little kid or something. I said “Thanks honey”. but she didn’t answer. I looked over and she was sound asleep! That was a weird feeling. Having a ghost tuck me in.

Q: Ed did you go to Loch Ness ?

A: Yep.

Q: Do you believe there is a monster in the Loch?

A: Well let’s put it this way Tony. There could be something in that Lake. Maybe it’s a monster. Maybe it’s a Tolpa.

Q: A Tolpa? What’s that?

A: A Tolpa is a physical manifestation of the mind. It’s something created by the mind.

Q: You mean we create the monster in our own mind?

A: No, not you. But someone with great powers. High spiritual Yogis, people like that. They have been known to manifest lions, tigers, you name it.

Q: Have you ever seen the monster or know anyone who might have?

A: Yes. I know a very credible person who has seen the monster three times. Father Gregory Brucie from the monastery on the hill nearby. We’ve spoken to him. Let me tell you, when he says he’s seen the Loch Ness monster, you believe him!

Q: Besides the fact that you love Great Britain so much because of its mysticism, is there some other reason why you like it so much?

A: Yeah. I was drawn there ever since I was in the Navy during World War II. One time when I was on watch I kind of drifted off, daydreamed I guess. I had this vision of myself high on a cliff, looking down on the water. I envisioned myself as a fisherman. Then I pictured this shoreline. This was back when I was 17 years old mind you. Today I recognize the place I envisioned as Scarborough . I believe I knew Lorraine in a different life, and we lived together in England, perhaps Scarborough, or someplace close to there.

Q: Yeah, that’s a beautiful place. Anything else draw you there?

A: Well the scenery is magnificent. I especially love the Highlands of Scotland. That’s God’s country. The people are very friendly in Scotland.

Q: I know you aren’t too impressed with the food, are you?

A: Well let me tell you something. The food is good, you just have to get used to it. I really enjoy Haggis. That’s good stuff man.

Q: Too bad you’re not a drinker Ed. They have terrific Single Malt Scotch over there. I know because I’ve tried most of it.

A: My father told me when I was a young boy. Ed, don’t drink or smoke, I never did. Even in the Navy. I think I got drunk one time while on Liberty.

Q: Why do you think there is so much haunting phenomena over in the British Isles? I mean why would it be more so over there than here in the States for instance?

A: Think about it Tony. How old is the United States? 220 years or so? What’s the oldest structure we have? Let’s just say for argument sake we have buildings that are 250-300 years old at the most. That’s NEW construction over in England and Scotland! They have stuff built around the time of Christ, and before. The older a place is the more chance that tragedies occurred there. And we know that tragedies create the ghost syndrome. The older a place is, the greater the chance for phenomena. It’s that simple.

Q: Makes sense. Ed what can you tell me about the place you call “The Hill of the Angels”?

A: I can tell you that miracles happen there. It’s a little church and cemetery up in Scotland. It’s on a hillside. Many miracles have occurred there. It’s been said that if you go into the church by yourself, kneel down and meditate for a while, you’ll have a revelation. It’s a very spiritual and beautiful place. In fact we’ve brought snapshots of people who were very ill, placed them in the church, and had the people became well again!

Q: You believe deeply in the power of prayer don’t you Ed?

A: Absolutely. Lorraine and I both do. Prayer can heal. Prayer can make miracles happen. We’ve seen it so many times before in our work. We KNOW it works! In fact, studies have been done that show when people pray for someone; it has a positive effect on their cells. The molecular structure of the cells changes for the better.

Q: Really? What study was this?

A: It’s been on the news. Scientists actually did experiments. Control groups, the whole bit. They found that people who prayed for someone, even if the people were unaware that people were praying for them, were positively affected by the prayers. But we don’t need experiments. We know it already from our work.

Q: Kind of like the power of positive thinking, huh?

A: Absolutely. It’s like the article you wrote in the thoughts section of our web page. If you think positively, positive things begin to happen. But prayer goes deeper than that. Because you are praying to the Creator, to God…He’s always listening.

Q: Did you go to Whitby Abbey this time Ed? That’s a spooky place.

A: Oh yeah. Spooky and cold! But beautiful too.

Q: Ok. Good. Anything else you would like to add at this time Ed?

A: Yes. We’re looking forward to our annual Halloween Party. Stay tuned because we’ll be having information posted on our calendar of events section of the web. It’s gonna be a real fun time!

Q: Thank you Ed. I’m sure we’ll be talking again soon.

A: You bet. And thanks again to everyone who’s visited us on the website!

Guardian Angels & Spirit Guides

By Tony Spera

There has been a lot of discussion recently regarding angels and spirit guides. Every human being has a guardian angel or “Spirit Guide” if you will.  All one needs to do to be in touch with ones guardian angel is to ask for their assistance in time of need.   There is a difference however between an “angel” and a “spirit guide”. An angel is not human, but a creation of God.   They have never walked the earth in human form.   A spirit guide could be an angel or it could be a human who has passed on but is now watching over you to “guide” you along.  They could perhaps be a relative of yours, a friend, or just someone who by the laws of attraction has become attracted to you.  Everyone has had a feeling or “intuition” with regard to a dangerous situation, perhaps rounding a curve and sensing there might be a stalled vehicle up ahead or some other impending danger.  Some might call it intuition or a sixth sense, but more likely it was your guardian angel or spirit guide warning you.  In times of great difficulty or distress, call on your guardian angel or spirit guide for assistance.   They will be there for you.   You need not know who your guardian angel is by name.   You need only say, “I’m calling on my guardian angel for help in my time of need.   They will be there for you, try it, it works!

School for Psychic Research

I am wondering if you could give me a list of accredited universities and colleges that offer
parapsychology, or related courses?  I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me.

With regard to the many questions which we receive concerning the study of parapsychology and on becoming a professional demonologist.   With respect to academic programs in Parapsychology, this area is actually a sub-field of Psychology, and to study it thoroughly, an understanding of its location in the bigger picture of Psychology is necessary.  So, we believe that your college choice decision must be driven by your preferences for institutional size, geographical location, price, faculty research interests, and institutional prestige.  Since Parapsychology is often viewed with much skepticism in academic circles, the more legitimate the institution and academic program, the better off you will be.

Please also remember that the Warrens are among very few professional Demonologists, and in fact practice their profession free of charge to the public–it is through their books and speaking engagements that they earn their living, not by charging for investigations.  On a personal note, I find that as a volunteer with the New England Society for Psychic Research organization, part of the beauty of staying a volunteer (rather than trying to earn a living as a paranormal investigator) I am better able to select and control my areas of work and interest within the field.  If I depended upon my work with the Warrens to provide a living for myself, then I would be much less free to pursue areas of special interest to me.   You may want to keep this in mind as you think about becoming a paranormal investigator as a career choice.

Best Regards

Sometimes we have to sit back and take a moment to reflect on our lives, our dreams, our reasons for being.  Where did we come from?  Why are we here?  These are questions we’ve all asked ourselves at various times throughout our lives.  We’ve all had our own private dreams – fantasies perhaps . . . maybe you’ve dreamt of being a famous singer or actor.  Or maybe you wished you could run faster than any other human being on earth, or could set a world record in some type of sport.  Dreams are what keep us hopeful.  They refresh us . . . they are good for our souls.

Sometimes when I’m sitting at the computer, staring at the monitor, I go into a kind of trance state.  Some would say I’m daydreaming, others would say I’m lost in thought.  Which brings me to this question.  What is thought anyway?  Can you see it or touch it?  No.   Can you recall the thought exactly as you had moments ago?  Doubtful.   But thought IS real, wouldn’t you agree?  Thought HAS SUBSTANCE !  You are what you think you are.

Have you ever seen an Olympic weightlifter concentrating just before he lifts the bar ?  Do you know what he is doing?  He is VISUALIZING himself actually grabbing the weight, pulling it to his chest, and then exploding it into the air over his head! He actually lifts the weight in his mind.  At the same time he is telling himself, ” I can lift this weight! This weight is nothing for me! ” So thought can be a powerful force…an effective tool ( or weapon ) in one’s life.  If you constantly think of yourself as a winner, chances are you will win.  If you constantly think of yourself as a loser, chances are equally good that you will lose.  ( Sort of like the battle of good vs. evil, huh? )  Negative thoughts manifest negative events, no doubt about it. Positive thoughts manifest positive events.  That’s why in our work, i.e. fighting evil forces, we always approach a case with positive thoughts.

We never approach a situation with the attitude that we cannot conquer whatever it is we are dealing with.  We are the good guys, and we know it. Our thoughts are always of God, and Godliness.  We know God can and does protect us in our battle against evil.  So Where DID we come from?  Why are we HERE?  Only God knows our true reason for being.  But I bet you I can come awfully close to what it is.  We are here to learn the lessons of life.  CHARITY, WISDOM , BENEVOLENCE, TOLERANCE, HUMILITY.  And perhaps the greatest reason of all . . . we are here to learn to LOVE ! . . . It’s harder than you think.  To LOVE everyone . . . your neighbor…a stranger…an enemy…..without condition. We’ve sure got a lot of learning to do! We should all learn to smile more . . . to enjoy the beauty of life that surrounds us.  An old Indian proverb says ” The smile you give out, returns to you ” We should all practice that.

The Dangers of Ghost Hunting

ed lorraine warren with their pet dog The Dangers of Ghost HuntingInsights from Ed, Lorraine and Gizmo Warren

One of the main reasons for ghosthunting is to have encounters with ghosts. Sometimes however, the hunter can become the hunted.  Graveyards are notorious for harboring ghosts.  Are they the spirits of the dead that are buried there? Some spirits will remain in close proximity to their earthly remains in the hope they can re-enter that physical body and use it in the same way they did in life. Unfortunately, they cannot do this unless they are what we refer to as the “undead”, the “sorcerer”, the “Black Magician”.  The man who hunts tigers at times has found that the tiger backtracks and is now hunting the hunter.  The same is true with spirits.  Graveyards are spawning places for evil spirits. Most of these spirits are inhuman (diabolical).  They are drawn to areas where human suffering has occurred.  These areas are full of vibrations of the tormented people who have lost their loved ones, and the unfortunate human spirits that are earthbound hover close to their remains.

ed warren The Dangers of Ghost HuntingEvil spirits revel in the deterioration of human bodies; those bodies which God created.  They are the dangers in the exploration of evidence that we, the living, must encounter. We must be extremely careful of not becoming the hunted.  How do we accomplish this?  By using the knowledge that the enlightened ghosthunter must know.  The enlightened ghosthunter envisions himself in a bright white glowing “Christ light” of protection before he or she ever enters any known haunted area or house.  He or she asks for the protection of God and all that is angelic.  But remember that these protective measures are only as effective and as powerful as the ghosthunter’s belief in them.  New truths, new discoveries, can sometimes only be found through dangerous encounters.

We as hunters of ghosts are visible. We are tangible. We are vulnerable.  The ghost has the upper hand for it can see what we do not, it can hear what we cannot. It can perform feats we cannot.  The ghost can come to us any time it wants. It strikes when the time is most opportune for it to do so (usually the psychic hours of the night between 9:00 P.M. and 6 A.M.).  So, if you want to hunt ghosts you must know your opponent.  You must respect its powers.

The person who makes statement’s such as “I’m not afraid of ghosts”, had better think twice about encountering one.  Knowledge is a weapon but remember- fools rush in where wise men fear to tread. Don’t be a fool.  Be a survivor and an intelligent researcher.  Help those who are in the spirit world (earth bound spirits).  Help the living reach a better understanding of that supernatural world we will all enter some day.  I have been in this work of exploration for more years than I care to remember.  I am happy to say I still am.  It has been exciting, frightening, and even funny at times but it has never been boring.  So I continue to explore, to delve, to research.  I am happy in the knowledge that I have found the secret of life.  It is that we survive what many believe to be the end, when in reality it is just the beginning.
